Life at the FIJI House FAQ
Why live at the FIJI House?
Experiencing student life is not complete until you have had the opportunity to live in fraternity housing. The Fiji House opened its doors at FIU in September of 2001, giving FIU students their first opportunity to live this essential element of the full college experience.
Without question, the University experience is more complete when it includes the option of living in a fraternal environment that supports your academic pursuits while offering some of the best memories and relationships that you will ever forge.
Join the thousands of young men across the United States and Canada who make the Fiji House their home away from home at their respective campuses.
What is life like at the FIJI House?
Life in the Fiji House offers advantages that simply cannot be gained from any other Housing alternative. Phi Gamma Delta is a Fraternity that is internationally recognized for the value that it adds to the college experience, with the added benefit of being a lifelong association with 161 years of history. Indeed, Phi Gamma Delta is "Not for College Days Alone", but is an association that some 100,000 living Fijis value throughout their entire lives.
Living in an environment that is dedicated to the personal development of its members greatly enhances the academic and social life that you experience while on the campus of Florida International University. The House offers a vibrant social environment, with many members and friends always willing to share good times. At the same time, there are expectations that quiet hours will be respected and a disciplined approach to academic achievement will be observed.
Who can live at the FIJI House?
Although you do not have to be a member of Phi Gamma Delta to live at the House, we prefer to allow only those individuals who would embody the values that define our Fraternity and who have the potential to become good representatives of our organization.
Fijis are leaders in every respect of the word. We would expect someone who shares our living environment right across the street from the President of FIU to have the potential to be a leader as well -- in his classes, on his campus, and in his community.
Where is the FIJI House?
The FIJI House is located at the 16th street entrance to the Modesto A. Maidique campus of FIU. The full address is:
Miami, Florida 33165
The phone number is 305-348-FIJI.
When can I move in?
Unlike other on-campus housing alternatives, we offer very flexible leases that can start any month of the year. You can also design your lease according to your needs. We offer contracts that last as few as 3 months all the way up to 12 months. Generally, the longer the period of your contract, the lower monthly rate you will be expected to pay.
How much does it cost?
Living at the FIJI House is more affordable than anywhere else on campus. Indeed, you will be hard pressed to find a better deal anywhere! All suites are doubles (you can have a room as a single if you pay the single room rates) and include high-speed internet access, cable TV and local telephone access, dresser, desk, single bed, a refrigerator, and a spacious bathroom that is shared with one other room. Additionally, living in the House allows you the use of common areas such as our industrial kitchen, multi-purpose dining room and luxurious living room with 7.1 home theater.
Unlike other on-campus housing, which demands that you pay everything up front before the start of the semester, we offer more flexible payment arrangements.
